TIGERS THEME SONG

Oh, we're from Tigerland,
A fighting fury, we're from Tigerland,
In any weather you will see us with a grin,
Risking head and shin,
If we're behind then never mind,
We'll fight and fight and win.

For we're from Tigerland,
We'll never weaken 'til the final siren's gone.
Like the Tigers of old,
We're strong and we're bold.
For we're from Tiger yellow and black,
For we're from Tigerland.

ROUND 12 MATCH REPORTS

Under 10 Match Report

The Queanbeyan Tigers Under 10s side played against the Weston Creek Wildcats on Saturday in a very tough match with non stop action by the boys.
Angus Hoadley played brilliantly blocking countless shots and gaining lots of possessions to set up some great goals by Tyler Van Luin and  Finley Hollyhead.
George Cross was in the thick of the action with a heavy workload in the forwards.
Wilson Moreshead and Jackson Street took some screaming marks showing their athletic form while Robert Kendrick and Riley Hore showed no fear in the packs to come out on top.
Geoffrey Sims was at his usual best in the centre rucks with Mikey Pribyl kicking to his targets to keep the ball in Tigers territory.
Awards this week went to Tyler Van Luin, Angus Hoadley and George Cross.
Next Saturday the boys take on Marist at Pearce.

Under 12 Match Report

Three in a row!
Those that came out to watch our lads take on the Gungahlin Jets on Saturday witnessed an exciting come-from-behind victory.
St Edmund’s Tigers line up was vastly different to previous weeks as players were given new roles in order to give them added experience. Some of our regular playmakers were rested for the first quarter taking their turn to start on the bench. This put some pressure on our younger, less experienced players to step up.
These boys did a fantastic job considering that they were playing out of position, however it was the Jets that got off to a flyer. Under their new coach, the Jets used the ball extremely well and really supported the ball carrier. Within ten minutes the opposition had four goals on the board with St Edmund’s Tigers yet to score. The pressure was on!
Late in the first term our lads clawed back a goal and looked to be rising to the challenge. The work rate was pretty good, however there was a distinct lack of talk and shepherding.

The second term saw some players return to their regular positions and the team improved straight away. Unfortunately we were relying on too few players to do all the work. The boys showed flashes of quality football but we needed more if we were to work our way back into the game. The Jets still held a handy lead at half time and the St Edmund’s Tigers really had to lift.
The third term saw Eddie’s Tigers bounce back through direct, decisive play. Our boys decided to take the game on and attack. By the end of the quarter we had our noses in front.
It was a thrilling last quarter with both teams keen to take the points. After an arm wrestle the Jets started to get on top. They kicked a couple of unanswered goals to hit the front and with only five minutes to play St Edmund’s Tigers were down by eight points. We needed two quick goals to take the match. To the delight and relief of the spectators the lads rode a wave of exciting football home to snatch victory by one straight kick! To come back from 5 goals behind, hit the front, lose the lead with minutes remaining and then fight back again showed that out boys have come a long way in 2008.
Well done.
 Final score:
St Edmund’s Tigers: 6-14-50
Jets: 6-8-44
Best players: Lachlan Trabinger, Matthew Quinn, Scott Lancaster, Brad Cummings, Brent Mackey, Brad Murphy, Ben Osbourne

Under 16 Match Report

The Under 16s travelled to an arctic like Gordon to play Tuggeranong Lions last weekend, and also celebrated Daniel 'Rat' Pauletto's 100th game for the Club.

With a strong breeze across the ground and favouring the home team, the Tigers made a reasonable start and there was only a couple of points difference at quarter time.

The second term saw Lions apply more pressure and as has so often occurred with the Queanbeyan side this season, a couple of minutes late in the term saw two quick goals to Lions to take a handy lead at half time in trying conditions.

The third quarter saw improved intensity from the Tigers, lead by the on-ball brigade of Jono Carbone, Sam Hunter, Rob Treloar, Michael Moore, Luke Duggan, Lachlan Whan and playing his best game of the year and celebrating his milestone game, Daniel Pauletto.

The final quarter was similar to the previous three with the Lions being a two goal per quarter better team on the day although the difference in play was imperceptible to most in attendance. However, the Tigers never gave up and looked impressive when they managed to string possessions together. The final margin was 46 points in favour of Tuggeranong.

Although every player made a contribution at some stage, other outstanding contributors on the day were Robert Peck, Gavin Whitehouse who was moved to Full Back early in the game, Rhys Ebert, Caleb Brinton, Miles Thompson, Rob Schelberger and Ricci Rootsey. The two Joshes - Prater and Martin battled hard in the backline against much bigger opponents and Tom O'Connell, Daniel Wicks, Matt Crowe and Tim Blissenden were solid contributors.

JUNIOR TIGER GRAND FINAL RESULTS & MATCH REPORTS

Under 16 Division 2 vs Tuggeranong Bulldogs

The FEC Contractors Under 16 Tigers represented their club and community proudly in their Grand Final against Tuggeranong Bulldogs last Saturday. Despite not bringing the silverware home to Queanbeyan, this group of young men have earned the respect and admiration of the entire football community with their meteoric rise from ninth position last season to playing in the ultimate game this year.

Bulldogs were first to steady and this might have been expected as they had played in finals as a group for a number of years, whereas many of the Queanbeyan combination were experiencing their first finals campaign. By quarter time the Tigers trailed by a couple of goals and this slow start was going to pay later as the Tigers had to work extra hard to get back into the game.

By half time the margin had been slightly reduced and with the team starting to play better football all was set for a big second half. The Tigers came out firing in the third quarter which was also the most exciting of the match. Credit must go to all players but in particular Jay Carrick did a sensational role tagging a Bulldogs ball magnet, Kyle King was unbeatable at Centre Half Back and Robbie Schelberger started to impose himself on the game.

Key forwards were having a hard time under the constant pressure applied by Bulldogs, however Matt Crowe was damaging when he found space and booted a sensation 55 metre goal to see his team level with their opponents at the final break.

The final quarter saw the Tigers never give up and showing the determination they have been rewarded for over the season, however Bulldogs managed to pile on a couple of goals in a row and then a third sealed it for the ACT side, winning by 20 points when the final siren went. Although naturally very disappointed with the result the players can all be very proud of their achievements and the way they conducted themselves during seven months of football that started with pre-season training in February. Well done everyone!

Queanbeyan 6.9 (45) def. by Bulldogs 9.11 (65)

Best: K King, J Carrick, J Noonan, R Rootsey, R Treloar, A Tanevski, R Schelberger, S Treloar, S Hunter, A Fengler.

Under 14 Division 2 vs Belconnen

A great come from behind win to the tigers on Saturday at Kingston to win this year’s JR Mair Shield.

Hitting the post 3 times in the first half and only two majors had the tigers behind on the scoreboard at halftime but focus on winning hard ball made the difference in the end as the Magpies were unable to match the tigers fierce desire man for man. Sam Jensen dominated midfield contests for the whole game and drew up to 3 opponents at once on numerous occasions. Tigers tackling pressure put the brakes on beautifully with some classic tackles around the ground giving Rory McQualter the opportunity to kick a well needed goal. Alec McCormick got three goals for the day and really made a difference on the scoreboard pressure. Troy Rootsey sneaked one through and halfway through the third the tigers were down by 13pts.

It was game on when Toby Yeates roved a great 20 metre goal late in the third to have the tigers within 7pts and the game turning. The last quarter saw the ball bottled up in Belconnen’s forward line for what seemed an eternity with them only able to score points for the quarter where they fought desperately to gain a clean possession. But our backs stood tall lead by Gary Wishart and Sam Perkins. Tim and Kieran Shea contributed all day off the ball shepherding and bumping, and with the tigers still behind late in the last, Hayden Benny had a good kick hit the square and Sam Jensen marked and goaled to have the difference 4pts. A quick clearance saw Dean Solway with a mark and great kick to put the tigers 2pts up with three minutes to go.

Tigers fans hearts were In their mouths when the ball again took a Piccadilly tour around Belconnen’s goals before being cleared down the wing in a passage of play that the boys have produced well all season with controlled teamwork and clean skill. Alec McCormick hit the sealer with 30 seconds to go for a very sweet, very well deserved victory. Congratulations Boys you fought and fought and won!

Tigers 8.12 (60) def Belconnen 7.10 (52)

Goal scorers Alec McCormick 3, Sam Jensen, Troy Rootsey, Dean Solway, Rory McQualter and Toby Yeates
