Tigers young players in 2005 SERAS programme
The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) has announced
its scholarship holders for the 2005 Australian Rules Football Program
which is being run in partnership with the AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission. The
Queanbeyan Tigers Football Club has once again added their support to
SERAS as the programme sponsor.
This is the second year for this programme and it has been
expanded from the original concept to include 20 scholarship holders and
5 development athletes in 2005. In October 2004 a trial was held with
42 athletes attending and from this a squad was selected to attend a selection
camp which was held in Jindabyne during November 2004. Athletes were put
through a battery of fitness tests and skill assessments by the coaching
staff during the camp before the scholarship offers were made.
The 2005 programme activities will commence with a training
camp to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport on the weekend of
the 29th and 30th of January. Follow-up fitness testing and education
will be the focus of this camp along with game preparation and running
techniques. The squad will participate in a curtain raiser to the Wizard
Cup match at Manuka in February and an AFL match in April. The aim of
the program is to assist the development of talented athletes aged between
15 and 17 years to make the next step towards representative football.
The 20 member squad is:
Tim Crawley, Jared Daniel, Shaun Ebert, Daniel McGavin, Simon McNally,
and Stephen ONeill (Queanbeyan); Tyler Stevens (Jerrabomberra);
Stephen Foden (Burra); Jared Priestly (Bungendore); Mathew Cupitt (Goulburn);
Andrew Ellis (Bomaderry); Luke Favetta and Jeremy McDonogh (Batemans Bay);
Jackson Brooker and Paul Franchi (Merimbula); Travis Jones (Kalaru); James
Manie (Tura Beach); Leigh Prior and Michael Thompson (Eden); and Kai Allison
(Mallacoota).
The 5 development athletes are:
Jeremy Fitzgerald, Nathan Reid, and Troy Winbank (Queanbeyan); Brad Armstrong
and Sam Halder (Goulburn).
