Tigers training in full swing
Wednesday, 2nd February 2005
Training for the Queanbeyan Tigers has been underway for three
weeks with excellent numbers attending each of the three training sessions
per week. Approximately 85 players have attended at least one session
during this time, however there are many faces from last years (three)
teams which have failed to surface a number of those being more
experienced players.
Coach Mark Armstrong and Assistant Ken Campbell are quietly pleased
with the squads general overall fitness which is under the capable
eye of four times Tae Kwan Doe World Champion Dave Matheson.
Player losses from last years 1st Grade Grand Final team
have far exceeded expectations - with at least eight players leaving the
Club due to retirements or transfers interstate over the summer months.
However Armstrong expects a number of quality players who participated
in either the Clubs Reserve Grade or Under 18 Grade Grand Final teams
to take the next step into the senior grade team.
Last years Reserve Grade Grand Final team comprised of recent 1st Grade
Premiership and/or Grand Final players of the calibre of Dave Hunter,
Rod Gisik, Chris Davis, Michael Doyle and Adam Heading all of whom
are quality players who could be called on to once again commit themselves
to our 1st Grade premiership endeavours in 2005.
Add to that list, youthful players of the likes of Dave Corcoran, Chris
Haddock, Jordan Longmore, Paul Williams, Kane Bull, Dane Miller and Luke
Griggs and the Club has an enormous wealth of talent to call on in 2005.
The Club welcomes back Josh Parsons, Kane Cawse, Adam Pumpa, Dean
Foden, Scott McLeod, Paul Campbell, Matt Newcombe and Daniel Walker after
varying absences from the field of play Parsons, Cawse and Foden
all playing with Canberra & District League Club Harman Hogs over
the past two years.
Overall, the Club is looking forward to a new group of exciting young
players to lead the way in 2005 with the Tigers first round of the AFL
Canberra competition proper against Wagga Tigers on 9 April at home.
