Overseas Tigers fans keep up to date
We have had a tremendous response from many of our former
players and supporters now living overseas.
Sam Quade along with fiancé Danielle, are regular
visitors to the Website. Now residing in London, Sam has kept an active
eye on his former Club and is impressed with information being provided
through the website pages.
Alan McDonald a former player and administrator of the organisation
now lives in Scottsdale, Arizona (USA) and is impressed with our Blast
from the Past articles. Better known as Sandy, he was the
Clubs Treasurer and Secretary for a period of nine years in the very tough
times of the seventies and was one of the people instrumental in gaining
a liquor license which eventually enabled the Tigers to secure a Licensed
Premises in South Queanbeyan in 1983.
The benefit of having a licensed club is evident with the Tigers 1st Grade
team playing in 22 consecutive finals series including 16 of the past
20 Grand Finals.
Brett Edmonds - now located in Chicago and playing for the Chicago Swans
in the Mid American Australian Football League. The Chicago Swans
are sponsored by the Sydney Swans and the Southport Sharks and have a
player swap arrangement with the Labrador Tigers. The Swans have donated
a set of jumpers to their organisation. They are currently training
indoors because of the cold!
New Zealander, Nathan Rose - a member of our Tigers Under 18 Grade team
last year, Nathan has played the summer season in the NZAFL and sends
his regards. He is hopeful of returning to Tigerland in 2005.
Vale - Anne Moore
Many former Tigers will remember with fondness, the great
support from the loveable Ann Moore. Unfortunately Anne succumbed to illness
last week and was buried on Monday 14th February. Annie was well
known in the stands for her clacker the one she held
in her hand and waived eagerly in support of her favourite players.
One incident involving Anne comes to mind when Ben Jovanovic posted his
100th goal of the year when playing for the Tigers Under 19 Grade team.
It was a terrible day - wet, wild and windy and Ann raced onto the ground
in all the mud to celebrate with one her favourite players.
She came back to the stands caked in mud and soaking wet, but that meant
nothing to Anne when supporting her favourite team.
Our condolences were forwarded to Annes daughter Lynne and son in
law Brett whilst a great representation of former players and officials
in attendance at Annes funeral to farewell one of our favourite
ladies.
Growlers Club
The Tigers Growlers Club is now seeking members for the
2005 Season.
Established around ten years ago, the Growlers Club concept was originally
formed to encourage former players of the Club to attend home matches
and barrack from the confines of a tent.
A few years later the Growlers Club graduated into a shed with a pergola
and now have a palatial stand with full facilities and an
enormous deck outside the Tigers Administration Building.
Past players, along with sponsors and long time supporters
are encouraged to join the Tigers Growlers Club with all contributions
being channelled back into Club funds for the development of further amenities
at the ground.
Further information can be gained by contacting the Football Manager through
email qtigers@tigersclub.com.au
Ryan Quade
Last week we reported the exciting news that Ryan Quade
had been selected to play for the Sydney Swans against Essendon in a trial
match on Friday night at North Sydney Oval.
Unfortunately the AFL would not let him play because he is not a listed
player of the Swans therefore a tremendous opportunity passed him by.
Well Quadie, at least they were looking at you so that speaks well for
the future!
