SYDNEY SWANS RESERVES IN PRE SEASON FINAL
Tuesday 22nd March 2005

Swans Bench includesTim Robb and Patrick Leahy from The Tigers

The Sydney Swans Reserves have advanced to the AFL Canberra Pre Season Final (from the Pool 2 teams) and will meet Ainslie next Sunday, 27 March as the curtain raiser to the Swans v Hawthorn match at the SCG.

The Swans Reserves bolstered by the inclusion of established senior grade players Adam Goodes, Jason Saddington, Ben Matthews, Nick Davis, Luke Ablett and Jarrod Crouch, were far too accomplished for both Wagga Tigers in their first match and then again against Eastlake in the final game in which the latter failed to score and conceded 18.9 (117).

Two Tiger players were part of the Swans line-up, namely Tim Robb and Patrick Leahy. Although both gained limited opportunities it was a wonderful experience for the two lads being alongside some of the names mentioned above.

The Tigers scored a win in their final match of the pre season competition with an 8.7 (55) to 5.8 (38) win over Eastlake in the early game to finish second of the Pool two teams.

Leading the way in their victory over Eastlake was Coach Mark Armstrong who dominated proceedings up forward posting four goals. The Tigers had a handy 6 goal break at half time before the Demons staged a comeback in the second half of the shortened pre season competition match.

The Tigers were best served by some old stagers in Armstrong, Jack Charlton, Brett Nolte and James Geale whilst youngster Mitch Daniher could not be faltered for his ferocious attack on the footy.

The Tigers youthful Under 18 Grade team played last years Premiers Marist in a curtain raiser match having a strong victory – both teams fielding weakened teams due to the Canberra long weekend. Still it was an excellent victory and a strong start to the year for the Tigers - this following their trial match victory over Ainslie two weeks ago.

Queanbeyan will have a break over Easter with the possibility of a further trail match(s) for all grades being organised for the following week leading up to the competition proper commencement on 9 April against Wagga Tigers at Margaret Donoghoe Sportsground.
