LATEST NEWS - WEDNESDAY JUNE 15TH

Matthew Weickhardt and Jeremy Blyth

Two of last years Senior Grade players Matthew Weickhardt and Jeremy Blyth are now at opposite sides of the world in terms of their football careers.

Matt Weickhardt – the Clubs first full time Development Office and a prominent figure in football circles since joining the Tigers as a 15 year old in 1994 (along with parents Trevor and Jill) - is now located in Taiwan with wife Sharon.

On a twelve month posting, they are teaching English as part of their profession. Both are in constant contact with the Tigers Club and forward their regards to every one and best wishes for a successful 2005 Season. Matt was an accomplished player who won many awards in the Tigers Under 19 and Under 21 Grade teams before succumbing to injury resulting in surgery to his feet. Unfortunately since those operations he has not been able to reclaim some of his outstanding footballing abilities but is still one of the strongest and loyal supporters of the Tigers organisation.

Jezza with one enormous crabJeremy Blyth, better known as “Jezza” was the Tigers New Zealand recruit three years ago. Jezza being the former Captain of the New Zealand Under 17 International Team.

He won the Clubs Under 18 Grade Best and Fairest in 2003 after only playing the last half of the season and became a popular identity in the organisation.

Last year he was a member of the Clubs Reserve Grade team which participated in the Grand Final, but Season 2005 has found him on Flinders Island in the Bass Strait – becoming a professional fisherman.

Jezza and his mum Brodwyn send their best wishes to all involved in the Tigers Organisation.

Brodwyn has sent the attached photograph of Jezza with one enormous crab – comment being made by many players “that they are glad he is catching those crabs and not us”!
