Felix Elias
Another one of the Tigers Volunteers is Felix Elias who has manned the
Tigers Gate for the past eight years. Felix being the father of senior
grade player Jon.
Felix is well known in football circles as he held the position of gate
person at Football Park for many years when AFL Canberra had control of
that arena. Now a resident of Robertson in the Southern Highlands, Felix
travels down the highway (for some two hours) to every home game of the
Tigers and regardless of the weather welcomes all those attending the
Margaret Donoghoe Sportsground.
His partner in crime for many years was the late Tom Fowlie who held
the position for over twenty years until he passed away in 2001. Felix
is now assisted on the gate by Tom's grand daughter Tanya Lawlis and
her young son Nicholas (age 6) who sells the Football Records (when not
out kicking the footy with his mates).
Not many people would realise the commitment of this voluntary position,
Felix arriving at the ground at 7.45am every home game to firstly assist
raise all the Tigers Premiership flags before taking control of the gate.
On a cold winters morning this is not the place to be but with his magnificent
friendly manner, our Felix doesn't mind being in the cold to assist
his club until half time of the main match - that's seven hours in
the cold during mid winter.
Just for the record, his son Jon isn't a bad player either having
been a member of the Tigers triple premiership teams of 1998, 1999 and
2000 and is close to playing his 100th Club game in addition to passing
the milestone of 100 1st Grade matches later this year.

Pictured is Felix - early Sunday morning prior to the commencement of
the Tigers Under 18 Grade fixture match against Weston Creek.
