TIGERS NEWS - 27 JULY, 2005
There seems to be a glut of sporting reunions in the Region
First the Queanbeyan Kangaroos celebrating their 20 Year 1985 1st Grade
Premiership Reunion over the weekend 17/17 July. Next weekend AFL Canberra
commemorates the 25 Year Reunion of the ACT Team that defeated the VFL
in one of the biggest sporting upsets in the code of Australian Football.
Early August is the Queanbeyan Whites 50th Year celebration which is sure
to attract tremendous support from around the region and next is the Queanbeyan
Tigers 20 Year Reunion of its 1985 1st and Reserve Grade Premiership teams
on 27 August.
Along with the other footy codes, the Tigers Club will have a great number
of former players in attendance in what will be one of the highlights
of the 2005 Season.
Former Players and Officials were notified of the upcoming 20 Year reunion
some time ago with official invitations being forwarded this week. Interest
in the reunion commenced earlier this year when former characters of the
1st Grade Premiership team Brian Butch Hemming and Peter Scully
rang enquiring if there was to be such an occasion. Both players played
enormous roles in the Tigers first Premiership (as a stand alone club)
since the 1941 Premiership team a period of 44 years between drinks.
The Reunion will coincide with the Tigers last home and away match against
Tuggeranong Hawks at the Margaret Donoghoe Sportsground with an official
welcome in the Tigers Licensed Club at 12 noon by new Chairman of Football
Bob Gibbs who coincidently was the Clubs Chairman of Selectors in 1985.
The 1985 Premiership players in attendance will then attend the Tigers
100 Club that evening during which they will be introduced to what is
expected to be one of the largest 100 Club dinners during the functions
23 successive years.
Players who are expected to attend from interstate include: Mark Thompson
(Ballarat), Darryl Bell (Brisbane), Darren Miller (Adelaide), Richard
Burge (Wagga), Robert Squizzy Taylor (Melbourne), Butch Hemming
(Warrigal), Leo Lucas (Brisbane), Peter Scully (Far north coast) and Stephen
West (NT). Obviously many of the players who are now permanent and successive
residents of the district will also be in attendance including Coaches
of the two teams Brian Quade and Mark Snapper Briant.
It should be a wonderful occasion with enquiries being directed to the
Tigers Football office on 62993467 or direct email enquiries to qtigers@tigersclub.com.au.
Alternatively further details can be gained by logging onto the Clubs
