Wally Thompson - A Tiger Through and Through
Our Timekeeper
Wally
Thompson is one of the longest serving volunteers of the Tigers Organisation
having filled the position of Timekeeper for almost 17 years.
This is exception considering he had an association with the Weston Creek
Football Club for a period of time during which he served as President
of that organisation.
However he had Queanbeyan blood through his veins being a born and bred
Queanbeyanite and although not playing many games for the Tigers as a
youngster (preferring to play Rugby Union with the Queanbeyan Whites)
he managed to have a strong bonding with many of the Tigers players at
the time.
Living in the suburb of Weston his return to his roots eventuated when
son Greg started playing for the Tigers Club in the Under 19 Grade and
eventually Reserves. Wally decided to take on the position of timekeeper
for the lower grades but quickly stepped up to the main match timekeeping
duties and now is firmly entrenched within the organisation as one of
our most reliable and dedicated volunteers.
Along with those duties he also managers to assist other volunteers
namely Darryl Jerka Jenkins every pre season with the
cooking of his special spit roast of which all players and officials look
forward to prior to our first match. In season 2005 he along with Lesley
are responsible for our after match refreshments for the 1st Grade team.
He is indeed one of our champions and was awarded Life membership of the
organisation in 1998.
Wally Thompson one of our true Champion Volunteers.
