TIGERS V SWANS RESERVES.
ROUND 17 - 21 AUGUST 2005.
Our Volunteer Group (see photo below) which accompanied our 1st
Grade team to Sydney last weekend for the clash against the Sydney Swans
Reserve Grade team as the curtain raiser match to the Swans v Kangaroos
AFL match consisted of 15 people including the majority of those pictured.
ItÍs a huge weekend for the group which commenced on the Saturday morning
about 8.00am with the majority of the volunteers in attendance at the
Tigers Under 18 and Reserve Grade matches for their scheduled games against
Marist and ADFA respectively.
Then itÍs onto the bus about 3.00pm for the four hour journey to Sydney
with the First Grade team for an overnight stop before rising nice and
early the next morning at about 7.00am for a departure from the accommodation
at 8.00am to the SCG.
Preparation for the 1st Grade teamÍs game commences immediately on arrival
at the ground. Busily going about their business is Team Manager Noel
Miller and his assistants Kay Parsons, Rob Cook and Trevor Weickhardt
with Sports Medicine Trainers Fred Gisik, Jane Haddock and masseurs Bob
Griffin, Nick Tsakalos and Graham Harmer doing their bit to prepare the
boys for a torrid encounter against an undefeated Sydney Swans combination.
Up in the timekeepers box is the ever reliable Wally Thompson.
Assistant Coach Ken Campbell and Match Day Assistants Robert Whatman
and Noel Sibly develop game day plans with Coach Mark Armstrong who on
this occasion seemed fairly relaxed walking (or struggling on his crutches)
amongst his group of players.
And who else to motivate the players other than Queanbeyan Age correspondent
and the Tigers living legend Alan Muir keeping an eye on his beloved Tiger
players. Runners for the day were two players who had represented the
Tigers the day before in the Reserves Paul Briedis and Joe Sibly filling
in for the unavailable Tony Wynd and Roger Cuschieri.
ItÍs a huge outing for all concerned and by the end of the match, the
Tigers were well and truly thumped by an incredibly strong Swans team
which boasted former Captain Stuart Maxfield, former Geelong midfielder
David Spriggs, and regular senior grade Swans players Jason Saddington,
Jarrad McVeigh, Heath James, Jarrad Sundquist, Heath Grundy, Nick Malceski,
Paul Bevan and Andrew Shauble to name a few.
After watching the Senior Swans thrash the Kangaroos, it was then back
on the bus for the long journey home.
From the start of Saturday to the end of the bus trip Sunday evening
it was a long 39 hours for our tremendously loyal group of volunteers.
A complete weekend given up for the Tigers Club. Well done to all concerned.
Finally our thoughts to Licensed Club President and our other main Sports
Medicine Trainer Gary Bullivant (who did not travel with the team) and
his family on the loss of his father late last week.
