Tigers Long Luncheon
 “The Original and the Best”

On Wednesday, 21 September 2005, the Tigers Club conducted its 11th Long Luncheon and once again, the function brought together many of the corporate business people involved with the organisation as well as others from the region who have had an involvement with AFL Canberra Football during the Year.

200 Guests enjoyed the delights of a four course meal, wines, corporate merchandise, table promotions, raffles, the highly anticipated auction and a tremendous guest speaker in former Australian Wood Chopping Champion David Foster.

What an exceptional person David is.

Along with his entire family they have created so many records for individual and team performance(s) it is little wonder his moto for life is to “live ones dream”.

Former player and Coach of the Western Bulldogs Terry Wheeler – now the Tigers Specialist Coach performed the duties of MC and provided the audience with an insight of his upbringing in the close knit community of his junior football club Warburton – referring to it - as not too dissimilar to the Tigers Organisation.

The Long Luncheon is indeed one of the highlights each season on the AFL Canberra calendar and eagerly looked forward to as the season comes to a close.

The fact the David Foster rang two days after the event to thank all concerned for its organisation speaks highly of the function – so highly in fact that David will now use many of the day’s proceedings and ideas to promote his Wood Chopping Museum and Functions Centre in Devonport through the David Foster Long Luncheon.

The Tigers Organisation sincerely thank Michael Niesen from Carlton United and Fosters Australia for their support of the function in addition to Tobin Brothers (Function Sponsor), ActewAGL and TransACT for their corporate merchandise, Canberra Trophy Centre (for all the little things that count),  Col Maxwell from Maxwells Real Estate (auctioneer), Gary Sykes from Dairy Farmers / Capitol Chilled Foods Aust, staff of the Tigers Club including Jill and Lucinda and all other assistants who make this day “something special”.

LongtimeQueanbeyan Tigers supporter Jock McAulay

LongtimeQueanbeyan Tigers supporter Jock McAulay was presented with the AFL Canberra Supporter of the Year at the recent Tuggeranong Hawks Grand Final Luncheon.

Jock, 79 – is a permanent feature in the front row of the Queanbeyan Tigers Grandstand at the Margaret Donoghoe Sportsground during all home games – this after he has visited the Tigers change rooms prior to the match to wish his boys the best of luck.

His three sons David (114 1st Grade matches) Kenny and Andrew all played for the Tigers but despite their retirements some time ago Jock, has remained an ardent supporter of the Tigers Club.

The Scottish soccer convert has been a Tigers fan since 1968, when he and his family moved to Queanbeyan from Melbourne.   Living in Carlton while in Melbourne he swapped codes for our great Australian game and follows the Carlton Blues Football Club.

He still enjoys a scotch, smoke and drives to all games – sometimes including the long haul to Wagga.  Well done Jock and may we see you at many more games of your beloved Tigers Club.
