Mark Armstrong re-appointed for 5th term

The Tigers are pleased to confirm the appointment of Mark Armstrong for his 5th term as Senior Grade Coach for Season 2006.

Although the appointment was announced at the conclusion of Season 2005, no formal announcement had been made until all other Coaching positions were put in place, this being achieved recently with the announcement of Jamie McGinley as the Tigers new Reserve Grade Coach.

Armstrong’s re-appointment comes after four years at the helm which has seen three consecutive grand finals appearances and 4th position this year – he himself being one of the long term injuries the club received in 2005.  A broken leg sidelined him for the last two games plus the 1st semi final of the season.

“Merv”is highly regarded as one of the best players to have played in the AFL Canberra competition – this acknowledged by his selection in the ACT Legends Team – he being the only player selected at the time still playing the game.

Other 1st Grade appointments for the Club include Ken Campbell as Assistant off field Coach and Terry Wheeler as the Clubs Specialist Coach. Match Day Assistant will be former Premiership player Doug Daniel with a possible on field Assistant Coach being named in the very near future.

The Reserve Grade appointments are Jamie McGinley as Coach with Noel Sibly and Robert Anderson as Assistant Coaches / match day assistants. A further assistant is to be named.

The Under 18 Grade appointments are Damian Kirkwood as Coach with his Assistant being Scott Taylor.

The appointment of Mark Armstrong for his fifth consecutive term as 1st Grade Coach elevates him to be only the third person to coach in as many consecutive years along with Brian Quade (ten consecutive season for eight grand finals and four premierships) and Kevin Delmenico (five consecutive years for three preliminary finals).  Both Floyd Primmer and Max Gibbs Coached the Tigers for six years a piece – however they were not consecutive, Primmer achieving 6 grand finals for three consecutive premierships – 1939, 1940 and 1941.
