Queanbeyan Tigers Major Sponsor of the South East Region Academy of Sport
AFL Component
The
AFL component of the South East Region Academy of Sport has been sponsored
by the Queanbeyan Tigers Club for the past two Years.
Tigers Chairman of Football Bob Gibbs recently announced a further two
year Sponsorship arrangement with the SERAS Board of Management covering
the 2006 and 2007 intake of Scholarship recipients.
Selection of the 2006 intake will take place over the weekend 19 / 20
November with approximately 40 players from the South East Region of NSW
having been nominated for possible selection for the 25 Scholarships available.
Scholarship recipients will have to demonstrate the potential to develop
their skills to the next level of the AFL programs available at State
level. The program is aimed at developing players for selection
in State Under 16 and Under 18 Grade teams and the NSW ACT RAMS programs.
AFL SERAS Athlete of the Year
Queanbeyan Tigers Under 18 Grade player Jared Daniel was named the South
East Region Academy of Sport (SERAS) AFL Athlete of the Year for 2005.
Some of the current players of the Tigers Club who have been a scholarship
recipient of the SERAS Program include: Ben Woodall, John Murphy,
Brett Ormston, Simon McNally, Stephen Foden, Daniel McGavin, Tony Stephens,
Jared Daniel, Michael Beer, Tim Crawley, Stephen OÍNeil, Paul Franchi,
Sean Ebert, Jackson Brooker and Leigh Prior.
The Tigers Clubs involvement in the program is further highlighted with
former associates Rick Miller (Coach) and Geoff King (Manager) along with
former Premiership players Glenn Cullen and Michael Goiser being assistant
coaches.
New Office:
SERAS has formally opened its new office which is located at the QRacing
complex in Furlong Rd Queanbeyan.
QRacing acknowledged their support of SERAS with the naming of a race
after the Academy on the November 7 Race Day with President of QRacing
Neil Head offering to further develop the relationship between the two
non profit organisation for mutual benefit.
Executive Officer of SERAS Garry Lane welcomed the support of QRacing
and in particular the Queanbeyan Tigers ongoing sponsorship and support
for 2006 and 2007.
