The AFL Canberra Draw for Season 2006 has been finalised with the Queanbeyan
Tigers to meet reigning Premiers the Sydney Swans Reserves at the SCG
on Sunday April 9
The Swans were a dominant force for the majority of 2005 but have had
a turnover of players since their premiership victory with the following
players departing the club through retirement or being delisted: Ben Fixter
(Brisbane Lions), Heath James (retired), Jason Saddington (Carlton), Matthew
Nicks (retired), Sean Dempster (South Adelaide), Andrew Schauble (retired),
Mark Powell (Kangaroos), Guy Campbell (Echuca), Jarrod Sunquist (Adelaide),
Nick Potter (AFL Sydney) , Andrew Hayes (Adelaide) and Ryan Quade (Queanbeyan
Tigers).
The Tigers first round match against the Swans Reserves is the curtain
raiser match to the Senior AFL fixture match between the Swans and Port
Adelaide. The match is will commence at 9.50am with tickets being available
from the Tigers Office. If sufficient interest is shown a supporterÍs
bus will depart the Tigers Club on the morning of 9 April returning after
the main match. Bookings / inquiries can be made by contacting the Football
Management Office on 62993467.
A pre season competition (between all AFL Canberra Clubs
with the exception of Wagga Tigers) will be conducted prior to the opening
match of the season over the weekends 25 / 26 March and 1 / 2 April ¿
venue(s) to be determined.
There will be a break in proceedings over the Easter weekend with the
Tigers second round clash being another road trip, this time to Wagga
for the regular Dairy Farmers Challenge match for the ActewAGL
Cup between the two NSW based teams.

COLLINGWOOD v SWANS - June 24 at Telstra Stadium
Of great interest to the Collingwood based supporters in Canberra will
be the Swans match against the Magpies on Saturday evening June 24.
The match will be played at Telstra Stadium and is sure to attract 50
¿ 60,000 spectators. The Tigers are the curtain raiser match
against the Swans Reserves. The Club has an allocation of
tickets for this match. Bookings / inquires for this match can again be
made by phoning the Clubs Football Management Office on 62993467.
The Swans and Collingwood are two of the best known sporting clubs in
Australia, so there will be plenty of interest in ticket availability
for this match. DonÍt miss out on this great opportunity.
AFL Canberra Representative fixture
AFL Canberra have scheduled an attractive Representative program in Season
2006 with matches against Queensland on June 10, AFL Sydney on July 1
as the curtain raiser match to the Swans / Bulldogs clash at the SCG and
then participation in the Australian Country Championships (of which the
ACT won in 2004) to be played on the Gold Coast.
PROMOTIONAL MATCHES
The AFL Canberra Board of Management have also scheduled a ñBack to Manuka
Ovalî round of matches for Saturday May 20 with double header games between
Belconnen and Ainslie at 11.30am and Queanbeyan and Eastlake at 2.15pm.
A further promotional round of matches will be held on July 15 at Ainslie
Oval being a Heritage Round between all Clubs with Ainslie and Weston
Creek playing at 11.30am, Belconnen and Queanbeyan at 2.15pm with Tuggeranong
and Eastlake due to meet under lights at 5.00pm.
The AFL Canberra Finals Series will be conducted over
three weekends with the 1st and 2nd semi finals on 9/10 September, the
Preliminary Final 17 September and the Grand Final on 24 September.
TIGERS CLUB FUNCTIONS
The Tigers 100 Club Dinner will be held on Saturday September 2, the
Tigers Long Luncheon on 27 September and Presentation Night on 7 October.
