AFL Canberra Heritage Day
AFL Canberra recently conducted a Heritage Round of Matches with
all Clubs based in Canberra / Queanbeyan playing a triple header
at Ainslie Oval.
Atrocious conditions greeted the day with pouring rain throughout
the three matches making it very difficult for players / officials
and spectators to enjoy proceedings with very few facilities available
in terms of teams having to occupy the same change rooms.
The day commenced with Ainslie outplaying a determined Weston Creek
Lions team who have yet to post a winning score in 2006.
The Tigers were next in line at 2.15pm against Belconnen. Both
Clubs reverting to one of their Heritage jumpers, the Tigers wearing
the colours of the 1930 team being all red with a blue v, red socks
and blue shorts. Belconnen wore the original Blues jumper of dark
blue with the BFC logo.
The Tigers (or should that be the Demons) were in front at half
time but were overpowered by a strong running Magpies (Blues) team.
The final game saw Eastlake wearing the traditional colours of
red and white up against Tuggeranong who played a tremendous game
under lights to go down fighting by only three points.
