An Emotional Day / Night for the Tigers Club

An emotional pre match speech by former Captain and triple premiership player Jason Gilbert inspired the Tigers 1st Grade team to an impressive victory over Weston Creek last Saturday.

“Gilbo” announced his retirement before the match along with Rod Gisik – both players having achieved tremendous milestones in their careers over the past 20 years. Jason completed his career with 242 1st Grade games and Rod with a total of 163 1st Grade matches.

The Club has been served by some outstanding individuals during its long history and these two rate right up there with the best. Unfortunately, both incurred injuries the previous week and were unable to take the field in their farewell match. They were however, carried from the field after the match last Saturday to the tremendous applause of those in attendance.

The day was completed with a magnificent 100 Club Dinner that evening. With over 160 people in attendance, the Tigers Club certainly showed its fantastic history with an evening of nostalgia.

Tributes to 100 Club members who passed away this year in addition to clippings of 2006 match day highlights combined with film of games played in the late fifties were a feature of the night. along with recognition of outstanding achievements within the organisation gained enormous applause throughout the night.

Jon Elias and Luke Ellis were admitted to the Tigers 100 Club by Coach Mark Armstrong and former Coach James Dore respectively.

The Elias Family were in attendance to celebrate Jon’s induction into the 100 Club.

Bob Griffin and Fred Gisik along with son Rod were inducted into the Tigers Hall of Fame by former Champion player Robert Anderson and four times Coach Brian Quade. Recognition was made of Chris Davis who played his 200 1st Grade game during the year by former Coach Rod O’Riley.

In attendance at the Tigers 100 Club: 300 Club game player Michael Goiser, 200 1st Grade gamer Steve Vizy and Michael Niesen who could play his 200th Club Game during the finals series.
