The Glenn Archer Cup Finals
On Tuesday 20th June, Queanbeyan played host to teams from all
over the South Coast region who travelled to contest the Glenn Archer
Cup. Schools that represented were the local lads, Queanbeyan public,
Merimbula public, Tathra public, St Peter and Paul’s (Goulburn)
and Yass public.
The day was played in very good spirits, with the local boys putting
on a very good show, only narrowly missing out on the Final through
percentage. There was some very high quality football being played
at Margaret Donoghoe Oval, but in the end the teams from Tathra
and Merimbula played off for the Cup. The game was very tight for
the first two thirds, but the Merimbula team pulled away in the
final third to win comfortably. They were named as the winners of
the Glenn Archer Cup 2006 (see photo below).
In the other finals game, Queanbeyan public and St Peter and Paul’s
played off for 3rd and 4th position on the day. After just missing
out on contesting the Final, the Queanbeyan boys went down to the
Goulburn based team, ending the day in 4th position. The final standings
were as follows:
1st – Merimbula public
2nd – Tathra public
3rd – St Peter and Paul’s
4th – Queanbeyan public
5th – Yass public
John Dickie, Development Manager from the NSW/ACT commented “I
thought the standard of football was very high and it was great
to have teams travel all the way from as far away as Merimbula and
Tathra. It was an excellent day for the code and we look forward
to making the Glenn Archer Cup even better in 2007”.
