Tigers Club host affiliated Clubs at MDS
Margaret Donoghoe Sportsground featured two of the Tigers Affiliated
Clubs last weekend with the clash between Second Division teams
Goulburn and Harman.
Harman have been affiliated with the Tigers Club for a number of
years now with Goulburn coming on board this year.
Had it not been for the Harman Hoggs support during the AFL Canberra
Finals series last year in which the Tigers fielded three teams
on the one day in the 1st Semi finals, then the Tigers Reserves
may well have had to forfeit. A mounting injury toll prior to the
finals robbed the Club of many of its regular players with the Hogg
s providing a number of players on the day to assist.
Over the year s players of the calibre of Dave Hunter and Michael
Wescombe have been regular 1st Grade players with the Tigers having
crossed from Harman. Indeed in the sixties, seventies and eighties
many Naval personal played with the Tigers Club.
A more formal arrangement between the two Clubs now allows players
to move within the ranks and supports both Clubs in their endeavours
to provide competitive teams in their respective competitions.
Currently former senior grade player with the Tigers Cambell Griggs
is now Coach of Harman with former Hoggs Coach Jamie McGinley now
Coaching the Tigers Reserve Grade team along with Shaun O Riley
another Hogg s player being his Assistant.
The Tigers / Goulburn Swans connection has been progressing steadily
over many years until this years more formal arrangement. Although
in its tentative years, the Tigers have had a number of promising
Goulburn Juniors play in its Under 16 and Under 18 Grade teams including
current Under 18 Grade player Sam hotdog Halder. In addition
former Tigers Reserve Grade Coach in the nineties Peter Jensen is
now Coaching the Swans - winning a premiership in the Second Division
in 2004.
For the record Goulburn Swans won the match at MDS with a blistering
last quarter onslaught upon their goals.
