AFL Canberra Mulrooney Medal – Hall of Fame
Induction(s)
The
AFL Canberra Mulrooney Medal Night resulted in a one vote win to Sydney
Swans Reserves player David Spriggs from former Queanbeyan Tigers
Best and Fairest winner, now Ainslie centre man Bill Neely.
In front of over 300 guests at the Hellenic Club, the AFL Canberra
Board of Management also inducted 10 former players into the Inaugural
Hall of Fame.
Queanbeyan players to gain induction were Champions James Black,
Tony Wynd and Roy Watterston. All three gained recognition for their
tremendous achievements at both club and league level during their
respective individual careers.

Front Row : Joyce Watterston wife of Roy Watterston, Barry
Browning, Jack Dorman, James Black, Edney Blackaby
Between
them they won 10 Tigers Best and Fairest Awards, Represented the League
in 95 matches and won 5 Mulrooney Medals. At Club level both Watterston
and Black Coached the Tigers with all three being Captain of the Club
at some stage - Wynd a record eight occasions between 1988 –
1995.
Other inductees included Manuka Stalwarts Edney Blackaby and Jack
Dorman, Eastlake Legends Keith Miller and Roger Duffy and Ainslie
Champions Kevin Neale, Bob Bloomfield and Barry Browning.
A highlight of the night was the appearance of Keith Miller in a
tie (bow). Keith had a short time with the Tigers as its 1st Grade
Assistant Coach and Administration Manager. He is well known for his
dislike of this type of neck breaking apparel.

The Tigers Chris Davis was inducted into the AFL Canberra 200 1st
Grade game Category.
Unfortunately,
during season 2006, Queanbeyan players obviously did not impress too
many of the Umpires in either 1st or Reserve Grade with only one player
in the top ten of either grade – Danny Dwyer being in 9th position
of the Reserves. The Jack MacNamara Medal for the Reserve Grade Best
and Fairest was won by Aaron Tyndal of Belconnen and Mathew Renet
of Tuggeranong as joint winners.
The Under 18 Grade T. A. Wharton Medal was won by Malcolm Fernie
of Tuggeranong with the Tigers Sam Burley finishing a creditable third.
Tigers Steve O’Neill and Jared Daniel finished 9th and 10th
respectively.
AFL NSW/ACT Commissioner and Tigers four times Premiership
Coach Brian Quade with Eastlake Legend Keith Miller (and tie).
The night was a great occasion with 12 former Mulrooney Medallists
in attendance including the Tigers 1991 winner Steve Cornish visiting
Canberra from Adelaide.
