Tiger
Cubs Get a Taste of the Big time
as
a part of the Queanbeyan Tigers effort to develop and maintain strong
links between the Junior and Senior football clubs, junior AFL teams
from the Queanbeyan Junior Football Club have been coming to Margaret
Donoghoe Sportsground to train with a few senior footballers. From
the Under 8’s right through to our Under 14 team, junior players
have been descending upon the heart of AFL in Queanbeyan to meet
a few senior players and get a taste of the professionalism of a
senior football club. The four time reigning premiers, our Under
16 team, have been consistently training with the Under 18 squad
for the entire 2006 season.
It
has been great to see the youngsters enjoying themselves out with
the senior footballers who were more than happy to donate some of
their time to assist in the development of the ‘next generation’.
One of the highlights of these training sessions has been the use
of the ‘speccy bag’, where the juniors really showed
some athletic talent to get up high and take some great marks.
The
junior administration would like to thank all coaches, parents,
junior footballers, senior footballers and officials for assiting
in making these sessions so worthwhile. A very special thankyou
must go to Under 18 Coach Damian Kirkwood, Assistant Scott Taylor
and all of the Under 18 players who made all of the kids feel so
welcome and was always willing to have the juniors involved, regardless
of the previous weekends result, or who they were playing the coming
weekend.
After
the training session (under lights, I might add), the kids then
enjoyed a sausage sandwich while watching some of the senior training
session.
