Tigers Sign Matt Cavedon
The
Queanbeyan Tigers have increased their playing strength for Season
2007 with the signing of Matt Cavedon from the Myrtleford Football
Club of the Ovens and Murrey League.
Matt was a playing member of their losing Grand Final team of 2005,
and is expected to arrive in Canberra mid January after being posted
to the area with the Australian Navy. He missed most of 2006 having
been posted overseas and is now keen as ever to play football and
establish himself in AFL Canberra with his new Club.
A quality player who posted two goals in the 2005 Ovens and Murrey
League Grand Final (of which Myrtleford lost by one point to Lavington
with a goal after the siren), he is certain to compliment the other
signing so far for 2007 - Mark Powell from the Sydney Swans and the
Kangaroos.
Tigers Reserve Grade Coach Jamie McGinley has been instrumental in
securing the services of Cavedon after coaching him in the Australian
Services team. "Mac" has described him as the complete player - tough,
determined, quality mark and plays both side of the body. Prior to
his playing days with Myrtleford, he had two seasons with Lockhart
being a member of their 2003 Premiership team.
He played with the Australian Navy during the Combined Services Carnival
of 2003, 2004 & 2005 gaining representative honours with the Australian
Defence Force as a centre half forward in 2005.

"Cav" will be a welcome addition to the Tigers Club after agreeing
to terms for a two year period. In addition, partner Lea is an avid
football follower and is looking forward to moving to the area and
being a member of the Tigers Football family.
