Tigers Gala Presentation Evening

The 2006 Tigers Presentation Night attracted some 250 people to the surroundings of the Queanbeyan Conference Centre.

In what has been described as a fantastic occasion, the Tigers giant ruckman Danny Jaques was named the Clubs 1st Grade Best and Fairest player being presented with the Tony Wynd Medal.

Polling 189 votes he was well clear of Runner Up Best and Fairest Ryan Quade on 154 who also gained the Michael Haddock Medal voted on by Past Players.

The evening gained praise from all in attendance for the professional manner in which it was conducted.

Master of Ceremonies, Robert Anderson providing the large gathering with an excellent over view of the Season complimented by a DVD of the Year as it unfolded. It combined game day footage with photos from through out the season.

Compiled by Jordan Longmore, the DVD featured every aspect including player achievements, the loss of past legends, and highlights of finals appearances by both the Reserve and Under 18 Grade teams. A further visual feature of the night was another DVD produced by Rob Walker through the generous support of Paul Walshe. This magnificent presentation included recently found footage of games played in 1958 / 1959 combined with game day highlights from season 2006.

Former premiership players and now active Club Officials Damian Kirkwood, Doug Daniel, Allan Mapleson and Robert Anderson.

The Tigers Club welcomed many parents who had travelled from interstate including Maree and Peter Daniher, Karen and Andrew Burly from Condoblin, Ellen Davis (Wagga), Kathy and Geoff Ward (Bateman’s Bay) and George Franchi (Merimbula).

Commencing the Presentation, Damian Kirkwood and Scott Taylor – Coach and Assistant Coach of the Clubs Under 18 Grade team made the following presentations:

Chairman of Football Bob Gibbs was then called upon to present the following:

  • Tigers Spirit Award
    Kerrie and Jay Gribbin

  • Best ClubPersons Award
    Noel Miller, Graham Harmer and Kaye Parsons

  • A superbly mounted photograph was then presented to each of the Clubs
    All Australian Representatives being Jeremy Kirkwood, Will Griggs and Danny Jaques.

A  Happy Group of Chappies - Shaun O'Neill, Fred Gisk, Ron Fowlie and Gary Bullivant.

Reserve Grade Coach Jamie McGinley and his Assistant Shaun O’Riley presented the following Awards to players of the Grand Final team:

During the evening Football Manager Ron Fowlie introduced all Sponsors in attendance along with the many volunteers of the organisation. Each individual received a gift as an acknowledgement of their tremendous off field support.

The Tigers Under 18 Grade Awardees
Daniel McGavin (Most Determined), Bob Griffin (Presenter), Paul Slater (Most Determined), Jared Daniel (B&F), Sam Burly (B&F), Jason Satchell (Most Consistent), Stephen Foden(Most Improved), Ian Gribbin(Coaches Award). 

With few exceptions the players were dressed immaculately as were the many ladies in attendance.

There is no reason to doubt that the Tigers Club are all full steam ahead for Season 2007 with encouraging signs already amongst a spirited group of players, officials and supporters in attendance at the gala Tigers Presentation evening.

Our tremendous thanks to the Canberra Trophy Centre for the magnificent array of awards. In particular to the hard working staff who at the last moment provided their expertise as usual - without complaint.
