The
End of An Era!!
The Queanbeyan Tigers Under 16
squad went down in their Preliminary Final to Belconnen last Saturday,
ending their bold run at a 5th consecutive Premiership. Conditions
were difficult and both teams had to contend with a gusty wind with
Belconnen seemingly able to handle the conditions better than the
Tigers. The boys started the game against the breeze, but the midfielders
were still able to give the forwards plenty of opportunities, who
at times missed in front of the big sticks, which began to lift Belconnen's
confidence.
The boys certainly had a lot of
the footy in the second term but were unable to use the scoring side
of the ground which made it difficult to convert their dominance to
scorebaord pressure. In the Premiership quarter, the backline, led
by Tim Kennedy and Callum Birtles, worked overtime to control the
play and restrict Belconnens scoring opportunities with the strong
breeze.
Coach Doug Daniels would have been
proud of the way the boys fought out the match with all of the boys
showing heaps of courage and true Tiger spirit. To their credit, the
boys never gave in and all at the game witnessed an excellent battle
between two solid teams.
Better players on the day were
Michael Redmond, Tim Kennedy and Callum Birtles.
