Tigers Host 100 Club Members

Roy Jaques is welcomed into the 100 Club by Tiger legends Tony Wynd and Bob Griffin.

An array of former players attended the Tigers 100 Club Function last Saturday evening including two of the best to have donned the club colours. Former champs Mal Wheeler and James Black were in attendance to assist as presenters and both were warmly welcomed during the night.

Wheeler was a prolific goal kicker of the late fifties / early sixties posting 100 goals as an eighteen year in 1959. Blackie is a four times Best and Fairest winner featuring in 191 First Grade games during the period 1970 through to 1983.

The evening was expertly presented by way of MC Paul Walshe whose knowledge of the Tigers history and its players whether former or present is always conveyed with the passion and desire of his former playing days with the Club.

Two players were inducted as full members of the 100 Club – James Kavanagh and Roy Jaques both of whom played their 100th AFL Canberra / NEAFL 1st Grade match this year. They had strong representation from family members in attendance including “Kavs” dad Michael who had travelled from Melbourne for the occasion and Roy’s parents who made the journey from Cootamundra.

James Kavanagh was peresnted his 100 Club Jacket by Tiger Legends James Black and Mal Wheeler.

Brett Fruend and Jacinta Froud were also inducted, “Fruey” as an Associate Member on the achievement of playing 100 Club Games and “Splinter” for playing 100 AFL Canberra Ladies games.

It was a special night for all who attended with special recognition of each 100 game player in attendance as well as recognition by way of a visual display of each and every 100 1st Grade game player.

The Club would like to acknowledge the effort by Paul Walshe both as MC and for the visual presentations, Judy Mustard for the table place mats and her efforts during the evening, Major Sponsors SHARP for printing of the program, the Canberra Trophy Centre and to the staff of the Tigers Licensed Club in particular the caterers for a wonderful meal.

Brett Fruend was inducted into the Associate 100 Club by Tiger Legend Tony Innaimo and current 100 Club Member Neil Irwin.

Jacinta Froud is the first Female Player to become an Associate 100 Club member and was inducted by Jill Bright and Michael Niesen.
