2016 Pre-season Training

Men

2016 pre-season training for First Grade, Second Grade and Rising Stars gets underway at 6pm on Tuesday, 19 January with the first session taking place on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Players should meet in the car park at the southern end of Anzac Parade.

After the first session training then returns to our home ground, Allinsure Park, from 6pm Thursday 21 January and continues each Tuesday and Thursday unless otherwise advised by the coaches. Players should bring runners and boots.

The senior coaching panel including Kade Klemke (Senior Coach), Paul Campbell (Senior Assistant), Dave Corcoran (Second Grade) and the newly appointed Chris Clifton (Rising Stars) are looking forward to 2016 and the continued development of a young squad.

“The game time and experience we got into a group of young players across all grades last year was invaluable – and to win the First Grade premiership was icing on the cake,” said senior coach Kade Klemke.

Unlike the previous off-season which saw an unprecedented loss of players, the Tigers look set to retain most of their 2015 list. Confirmed losses include Kane Goode (WA), Ben Fulford (Nth Albury), Jarrod Thompson (Temora), Tim Shea (Temora) and Mark Armstrong (retired – again!) while a few other players await University placement results.

Offsetting the losses are a few players returning to the club and a couple of key recruits – all of whom will be announced in coming weeks.

Women

2016 pre-season training for Women gets underway at Allinsure Park at 6.30pm on Thursday, 28 January. Training will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but may revert to Mondays and Thursday when the season gets closer. Players should meet at Allinsure Park but may train at various nearby facilities during pre-season depending on ground availability.

In a signal of intentions to continue their development as a team, coach Robert Anderson says his girls have had significant input into planning parts of the pre-season training.

“We only just missed out on elevation to Division 1 last year, and although we won the Div 2 premiership the girls aren’t satisfied to sit back and be comfortable in that division. They want to improve and get into Div 1.

“They’ve already requested we do some benchmark fitness testing – including a 2km time trial. It’s great that it’s our leadership group who are driving the setting of standards rather than me as coach having to push the group along,” Robert said.

All interested players are welcome at pre-season training.
