This weekend will highlight the high quality of players moving through the ranks of the Tigers with four players to debut for the GWS GIANTS inaugural team in the NAB Cup National Under 18 Grade Competition. Congratulations to Tiger juniors Sam Frost, Lachlan Squire and Harry Grant and to former Marist Under 18 Grade player Ollie Hicks on their selections. Hicks having a family connection to the Tigers with his uncle Tony Hicks having played in the eighties with the Club.  All 4 have already represented the GIANTS at NEAFL level.

Final Trial

The Queanbeyan Tigers have completed their respective trial games in readiness for the 2019 AFL Canberra Season.

Last weekend’s trial games for the Men resulted in two wins from the two senior grade squads. Both matches were played at Temora with Squad 1 taking on last year’s Riverina Football League Grand Finalists Griffith Swans with the Tigers coming away with a resounding 14.15 to 5.3 victory.  Squad 2 played Temora 1st Grade with Temora being ranked highly in the Farrer League Competition.  The Tigers won a close encounter 12.13 to 11.3

Former Tigers NEAFL Premiership player Will Griggs is player coach of the Griffiths Swans and he along with fellow Tigers NEAFL Premiership teammates Sam Daniel and Alex Overs were all strong opposition for their former club. Ben King is another former Tigers NEAFL premiership player linked with the Griffith Swans, but he was unavailable for last Saturdays match.

Likewise, for the Temora Jets. Former Tigers 2014, 1st Grade premiership player Kieran Shea lined up against the Tigers but unfortunately suffered an injury in the 1st quarter. Unavailable for the match was two another former premiership players in NEAFL premiership player Sam Jensen and 2014 1st Grade premiership player Mitch Haley.

Thanks, and Appreciation

Our thanks and appreciation to all those who traveled to Temora last Saturday. It was an enjoyable journey with special thanks being extended to volunteer bus driver Nick Vosnakes.
