A strong come from behind victory.

The Tigers have produced yet another strong last quarter to come from behind to defeat the Labrador Tigers at Cook – Murphy Oval on the Gold Coast on Easter Saturday.

It was a quality win played in ideal but humid conditions.

After leading for the first two and half quarters the Labrador Tigers took a 2 goal lead into the final term and looked set to take the points but a determined and disciplined last quarter allowed the visitors to post 6 goals to one to run out 17 point victors.

Four goals from 50m penalties (all of which were converted to six pointers) kept the home team in the game up to ¾ time.

There were five changes to the team that defeated Ainslie the week prior.  Nathan Kerlin and Mitch Daniher were unavailable over the Easter break, Todd Dickinson missed through injury, Neil Irwin gained a 4 week suspension courtesy of the tribunal last week and Dave Smith took ill just prior to the start of the game.

Coming into the team was Andrew Swan, Paul Slater, Cambell Griggs, Mitch Heaslip and first gamer Justin Galloway.    “Justo” went up against one of the leading ruckman in the NEAFL Northern Conference  competition and did himself no harm – in particular taking a strong mark during the last quarter in front of the coaches box.

There is no doubt the team can be justly content on their performance after taking into account a six day turnaround (from the round 1 match), the travel component plus the humid conditions.

Stand out players were Kaine Stevens (4 goals), James Kavanagh with 5 goals,  Sam Jensen, Toby Conroy,  Ben Klemke, Mat Cavedon, Ryan Quade and Ben King

Thanks to everyone who travelled in particular the volunteers.  Also to those ex players and officials now living in Queensland who assisted on the day – (especially the Dickos) .
