Rising Stars
The Tigers Under 18 Grade team returned to their early season form when they demolished Marist under lights at Dairy Farmers Park on Thursday evening. The game was the deferred Round 17 game.
In recent weeks the team has struggled. But on this occasion on a cold, windy evening they provided a quality effort against a team they have struggled against in prior rounds.
There was no outside influence much to the relief of all concerned with the officials allowing a free flowing game with few decisions affecting the outcome.
The Tigers had a commanding lead at half time posting 9 goals to their opponents 2 and continued their good endeavours into the second half even though the ball became extremely greasy and slippery in the conditions.
The Tigers were well served by Mitch Haley who dominated throughout. Sam Bowden continues to impress with his strong endeavours from the half back line capped off with a fine goal. Alec McCormick shows maturity and experience at this level while young Jeremy McDonald provided a link from the backline into the Tigers forward line led by Ethan Callender and Jack Jacobs.
Three players from the team will represent the GWS GIANTS this Saturday when they take on Belconnen Magpies at Manuka Oval at 10.00am in the NEAFL curtain raiser match to the GIANTS v Melbourne AFL game. Mitch Haley, Mitch Price and Stephen Camp have been requested to play.
The Tigers NEAFL and Division 1 teams travel to Greenway on Sunday to take on Tuggeranong, games commencing at 2.00pm and 11.30am respectively while the Tigerettes play their final game of the season at the Queanbeyan Park Oval on Sunday at 12 Noon against premiership contenders Ainslie.
