AFL NSW / ACT through AFL Canberra are developing plans to align local NEAFL Clubs to areas within the ACT and NSW for the purpose of providing a pathway for developing players to progress into higher levels of football.
Through this progression more players from NSW and the ACT will (hopefully) be drafted into the AFL system.
The Queanbeyan Tigers Club have been aligned with the South Coast of NSW to assist promote and develop Australian Football in that area.
This pathway is designed to bring players through the newly named South Coast Sea Hawks (formerly known as Bateman’s Bay Sea Hawks). The SC Sea Hawks have recently been admitted into the Division 2 and Division 3 competitions of AFL Canberra.
Through this pathway players can be promoted into the NEAFL team of the Queanbeyan Tigers Club.
To assist implement the development of promising young players the Queanbeyan Tigers have appointed Peter Williamson – a former Captain Coach of the Tigers Club who has moved to the South Coast to coordinate a pathway for developing players from all Sapphire Coast Australian Football League Clubs.
Peter Williamson has tremendous knowledge of the game being a former player with the Melbourne Demons prior to a move to the ACT in the early eighties.
Peter has the mandate of engaging all Clubs on the South Coast to the idea of developing young players through the South Coast Sea Hawks for progression into the senior grade teams of the Queanbeyan Tigers Club –the ultimate being inclusion in the Tigers NEAFL team.
Queanbeyan Tigers General Manager Ron Fowlie strongly believes that the appointment of Williamson on the South Coast will be the catalyst for future players being drafted into AFL Clubs.
“Willo is a fantastic communicator and will benefit all clubs along the South Coast if they engage him in a positive manner and look at the long term benefits which could well be the drafting of players into the AFL through the NEAFL competition” Fowlie said.
The Queanbeyan Tigers Club has previously given prospective players that pathway through the now defunct AFL component of the South East Region Academy of Sport (SERAS) of which the Club sponsored for many years.
