All three Tiger team are in action this weekend at Manuka Oval competing in the 1st and 2nd Semi Finals of the 2010 AFL Canberra competition(s).
The Tigers Reserve Grade who finished the home and away series as Minor Premiers take on Belconnen Magpies on Saturday in the second semi final commencing at 11.30am. The Tigers will field a strong team for the clash against the previous competition leaders who will be bolstered by the return of forwards Craig Eckersley and Daniel Posch, both of whom have been playing senior grade football in recent weeks covering for the loss (through injury) of key forwards in the Magpies 1st Grade team.
Coach Adrian Pavese and Assistant Rohan Langford have had a selection nightmare this week trying to fit all approx 30 players into the 22 man team with the weather conditions due to play an important part in the final makeup of the team. Extreme wet weather is forecast Friday evening, early Saturday morning.
On Sunday, the Tigers Under 18 Grade and 1st Grade teams play off in the 1st semi final against Belconnen Magpies and the Eastlake Demons respectively. These are elimination finals with the loser(s) hanging up their boots for their year and in some cases for good.
The Tigers Under 18 Grade team have gone through a torturous last half of the year after looking the goods early on. But if they can display the desire and determination they showed against Ainslie three weeks ago and then again the following week against the Magpies, then they will have an excellent chance of progressing to the Preliminary final.
The Senior Grade game will provide plenty of interest. The two teams have met on three occasions with the Demons coming out on top in two of those games. Both are coming off strong wins last week with Eastlake dominating proceedings against competition favourites Ainslie and the Tigers entering the finals series with a win over the Hawks.
The Tigers have named a young combination for the clash with an extended bench at this stage. A couple of injury concerns will be managed until Sunday’s team in finalised. Paul Slater misses the rest of the season with injury.
