Close Encounter expected against the Students!

Tigers Take on Improving Sydney University

Paul Franchi (above) along with Nathan Kerlin and Daniel Campbell have been recalled into Senior Team after strong performances in Div 1.

The Tigers NEAFL combination travel for their second interstate trip in a week when they take on Sydney University at Henson Park, Marrickville in Sydney on Saturday at 2.10pm.

Coming off a strong win against Broadbeach on the Gold Coast last weekend, the Tigers are sure to feel the effect of consecutive weeks “on the road” against a team that upset finals contender Sydney Eagles two weeks ago.

Four changes have been made to the Tigers line up with Mitch Price (Under 18’s), Alex Overs, Roy Jaques (both injured) and Jeremy Kirkwood (unavailable) all missing this weekend.

Coming into the team are Nathan Kerlin, Paul Franchi, Daniel Campbell and yet another player from the Tigers Under 18 Grade team in Mitch Haley.

The youngster originates from Dubbo and has had a number of games with the GWS GIANTS Reserve Grade team this year. Kerlin, Franchi and Campbell have all had numerous games in the NEAFL team this year.

The Tigers will be challenged for the top spot over the final three rounds by the Sydney Swans Reserves who are one game behind but with a much high percentage. They have GWS Reserves this weekend, followed by Sydney Eagles and then an away match against Brisbane Lions.

The Tigers will need to win against the University team on Saturday if they are to maintain top spot with games against Eastlake and Tuggeranong Hawks in the final two rounds of the season.

Other games this weekend include the Tigers Under 18 Rising Stars and AFL Canberra Division 1 teams playing against Gungahlin on Sunday at Dairy Farmers Park at 9.30am and 11.30am respectively.

The Tigerettes have the bye.
