The Tigers will end its association with the NEAFL competition this Saturday with the Clubs final game against Eastlake at Dairy Farmers Park from 2.00pm.

The Clubs withdrawal could see sweeping changes to the current player group with a number of players expected to be snapped up by the two remaining Canberra based teams in the competition – arch rivals Ainslie and Eastlake.

The Clubs Board of Management made the decision to withdraw from the competition based purely on reasons of finance. For similar reasons they have been joined by Belconnen Magpies and Sydney Hills Eagles.

The association with the NEAFL ends a period of competition that’s has seen the Tigers provide an opportunity for players and officials as well as many supporters to witness games at major sporting venues across NSW, Victoria and to a lesser extent in Queensland.   Games at the SCG, Bankstown International Sporting Ground, ANZ Stadium and Etihad Stadium as well as games being streamed LIVE on the internet as well as LIVE coverage on FOXFooty gave the Tigers enormous exposure around the country for the entire organisation and most importantly for the City of Queanbeyan.

The NEAFL provided a pathway for young players to aspire to and be recruited to other major leagues whilst also allowing a wonderful and exciting period of time in which the NEAFL team won the Eastern Conference title against a star studded Sydney Swans lineup in 2012. This in addition to participating in the FOXTEL Cup and NEAFL Championship game against the Brisbane Lions.

The future holds an interesting challenge for all concerned within the ranks of AFL Canberra but as one interstate parent said recently – “regardless – the Tigers Club will always be a great club and most importantly will provided a pathway for aspiring youngsters to play at the highest level in the region”.

For all those who participated in the NEAFL congratulations to all concerned including the playing group, the coaching staff and to those wonderful volunteers who travelled and gave their enormous time and devotion to the team over the four year period.
