Great Grand Final.

The Tigers Under 18 Grade Rising Stars fought a fantastic battle against Ainslie in the Grand Final last Sunday going down by 8 points in what was a quality game of football by both teams.

Played in tremendous spirit the game showcased the Rising Stars competition as a fantastic product of local footy with each and every player providing spectators with a game that went down to the final siren.

Congratulations to all players and to the respective coaching staff of both Queanbeyan and Ainslie.  It was a memorable game of footy with a large crowd in attendance especially from the black and gold army of supporters who were there in strong numbers.

The Tigers can be justifiably disappointed of not bringing home the silverware.

But with respect, the Tricolours were more accomplished on the day.  Inaccuracy cost Ainslie early with the Tigers seemingly being able to convert most opportunities when going forward.

13 scoring shots to Ainslie to the Tigers 7 by half time could have told a different story but it was the Tigers who were in front at the long break and looked set to go on with the game with an opening goal in the third quarter. A further forward thrust resulted in a point but from there it went the Tricolours way with an eventual 8 point lead going into the final term.

The loss of Scotty Lancaster in the second quarter to an ankle injury proved costly.  He had been a dominant force in recent weeks with his pace and judgement being a feature. However a number of players stood tall including PJ Maher with 3 goals and young Matthew Grocott (2) who featured in the St Edmunds U17 Grade Premiership the day before.

Marcus Lawrence played his best game for the year. With a strong off season don’t be surprised to see him play regular NEAFL football in 2014.
