The Queanbeyan Tigers continues to support local community football however on this occasion their support goes International!!!

During a recent equipment audit the club received an email from Community and Female Football Manager Tamarah Knox care of AFL Indonesia asking for donations of playing jumpers for their local teams.

The Junior Tigers responded by sending two sets of Under 14s jumpers for the local players in the AFL Indonesia competition to make use of with Eastlake being another AFL Canberra Club supporting the request.

Queanbeyan Tigers are thrilled to be able to assist Gordon from AFL Indonesia and we look forward to seeing the competition improve.

Below is a letter sent form Gordon Jones – Australian Football Development Officer,

G’day,

I’ve attached a couple of pics from training the other week of some of our Indo lads in the jerseys. In the Queanbeyan jerseys are my two counterparts Boy (pants) and Ibad (yellow shorts). Boy is the most senior Indonesian player and a very handy fullback. Ibad is the captain of the national side and usually rucks or is on the ball if there is a taller player.

The two younger players in the Eastlake gear are Yadi (red shorts) and Putra (black shorts). These are two of our more promising junior players. Yadi is quite new but has figured out the finer points of the game quite quickly. Putra is a tough little player and is as physical as they come. His skills are solid but not as solid as his hits! Little surprise packet really.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics and please pass them onto the clubs for me. We’ll likely be using the Qbn jerseys for my local side Setiabudi in the local comp I started this year. The team is mostly made up of students from the local schools around Tebet in East Jakarta. The schools are generally very poor with minimal facilities but the students come consistently to trainings at Senayan with the Bintangs on the free buses provided by the club.

The junior Eastlake jerseys will probably be used to equip the kids from Mama Sayang Orphanage in Cileungsi, South East of Jakarta, once the competition is started next year. These kids have really taken to Aussie Rules over the years thanks to volunteers before me. One of our star Indo players, who spent 6 years in the orphange, recently was awarded All Asian selection (only Asian player chosen) at the recent Asian Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

Cheers guys and thanks again!Gordon Gordon Jones Australian Football Development Officer
