James Kavanagh to play his 100th 1st Grade Game for the Tigers

Prolific high scoring Queanbeyan Tigers forward line player James Kavanagh will line up against Tuggeranong on Saturday at Greenway Oval for the 100th time in his career with the Club.

Since joining the Tigers in 2007, he has been one of the Clubs best forward line players to have donned the black and gold and is certainly in the same as bracket as former household names such as Mark Armstrong, Michael Niesen, Allan Mapleson, Brian “Butch Hemming” and the great Mal Wheeler – to name a few.

“Kav” crossed the border when he signed with the Club on 13 November 2006 and has never looked back. After 89 games with Ainslie he decided to join the Tigers and formed an unbeatable combination with Mark Armstrong in the Tigers forward line.

The pair were known as the “Twin Towers” and were instrumental in the Tigers 2007 finals campaign when the tore the opposition apart with huge wins in the 1st and preliminary finals before the team went down to a talented Sydney Swans Reserve Grade team in the Grand final.

He has occupied the full forward position since the retirement of Mark Armstrong in 2010. He is currently second on the 2012 NEAFL goal-kicking list with 49

His details are as follows: § Recruited from Ainslie in 2007 § AFL Canberra Leading Goal Kicker – 2005, 2006, second in 2007 § 1st Grade Games – 99 (Queanbeyan), 89 – (Ainslie). § First Grade Runner Up Best and Fairest – 2007 § First Grade Grand Finalist – 2007 § AFL Canberra Representative – 2008, 2010 (Captain) § All Australian Selection named Vice Captain – 2010
