It is with deep sadness that we inform Tigers supporters and associates of the passing of Dave Imrie.
Dave was the Foundation President of our Licensed Club. Along with a handful of others, he was instrumental in working to obtain the licence and in the development of the Tigers Club.
Dave was President of the Licensed Club from 1981 to 1984. Prior to that he also served as President of Football from 1968-1970. It was through this previous role that he was convinced by Ron Fowlie and Alan McDonald to come back in the late 1970s and assist in the development of the Licensed Club.
Dave first became involved with the Tigers after moving to Queanbeyan from the small NSW country township of Tulibigeal in the 1960s. He was an accomplished footballer in both AFL and rugby league. He passed on his footballing prowess to his three sons Colin, Alan and Bruce. Colin and Alan both went on to play over 150 first grade games each for the Tigers.
The Imrie family is synonymous with the Tigers. With Dave having been president of both the Football Committee and the Licensed Club, Colin and Alan also held roles on the Licensed Club Board and the Football Committee. Dave’s wife Nola also served on many committees and received life membership of the Tigers in 1971 in recognition of her efforts.
Dave’s contribution to the establishment of Australian Football in Queanbeyan was recognised in 1983 with Life Membership of QAFC Ltd (the Licensed Club) and by the National Football League in 1982 with the presentation of a Merit Award – then the highest honour that could be bestowed on an individual in our game.
In recognition of his contribution to the Licensed Club the main bar area in the Club is named the Dave Imrie Bar.
Dave passed away peacefully on Thursday, 16 March 2017, surrounded by family including grandsons Steve and Michael who played music as he passed.
Dave was the dearly loved husband of Nola; father and father-in-law of Colin & Wendy, Alan & Alison, Helen (dec), Bruce (dec), Sue and Mark – and honorary son Ron (Chook); grandfather of Michael & Monica, Stephen & Kat, Megan & Adam, Joanna & Emma and Grace; and great grandfather to Noah, Thomas, Eli, London, Hendrix, Matilda and Lola.
Our condolences go out to the entire Imrie family.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Dave’s funeral being held at the Chapel of the Broulee Memorial Gardens Crematorium, Broulee. The service will commence at 2:00pm on Thursday, 23 March 2017.
By request, no flowers. In lieu, donations to Schizophrenia Research Institute would be appreciated and can be made on the day at the chapel.
For those who knew Dave and are in Queanbeyan on Friday, 17 March Stephen Imrie, Dave’s grandson, has suggested you make a toast at the Dave Imrie Bar (Tigers Club) at 6.30pm.
RIP Dave Imrie.
