From a skinny tall kid to a mountain of a man, Andrew Swan has never changed his fun-loving
nature or respect for others as he grew into one of the Tigers best players in the club's history.
Affectionately known as Swanny, Andrew will play his 150th 1st Grade Game for the Tigers this Saturday and has an outstanding playing cv that will see him go down as one of the club's greats when he eventually calls time on his career.
He started out as a Centre Half Back as a junior but has developed into one of the power forwards of the competition while also spending plenty of games in the Ruck as well. His debut was in 2010 under Mark Armstrong and he quickly established himself as a key position player for the club.
In the 2012 NEAFL Premiership year, Swanny was a standout all season only to injure himself in the last home & away game against Tuggeranong thus missing the final series. His absence rocked but also galvanised the squad as they wanted to do it for the big man - and do it they did defeating the Sydney Swans Reserves in an epic Grand Final.
It took another 3 years of hard work, but Andrew would finally have his Premiership moment when he was appointed captain of the 2015 First Grade team and going on to win the premiership that season defeating the undefeated Belconnen. He then captained the team to another Grand Final in 2016.
Then the big move when he was approached to join the new Canberra Demons NEAFL squad in 2017 where he spent 3 years playing 32 games for the club. In 2020 when COVID hit and shut down the NEAFL competition, Andrew returned to beloved Tigers and went on to star in their 1st Premiership in 7 years defeating Eastlake in the decider.
In contention again in 2021 until COVID again struck, Andrew continued his big presence forward helping guide the 1st Grade to another flag in 2022!
There have been plenty of highlights for Swanny at the Tigers and they are listed below but no doubt his greatest highlight was meeting and marrying the love of his life and Tigerettes star Carly Res. They now have a son Toby and gee we can't wait to see this little one in the years ahead knowing the genes of his parents!
