“It’s Grand Final” time for our Super Two’s Women’s team as they once again face off with the Riverina Lions this Saturday!
This promises to be a cracker of a contest with both teams being extremely close all year with the Tigers landing the last two wins. But, you can’t keep the lions down and they bounced back last weekend defeating Eastlake as they try to go Back to Back following last years Premiership.
Who would have thought that in the space of two seasons the Tigers 2nd women’s team would have already played in a Preliminary Final and now the Grand Final. It’s a credit to the tigers players and coaches who have built a quality program for the women / girls in such a short period of time and regardless of Saturday’s result the Tigers Women’s program will continue to go from strength to strength.

Tigers Players to Watch:
Shay Dal Santo – the experienced campaigner has been a stand out it the tigers forward line and her ability to take the pack mark will be crucial if the tigers want to kick a winning score!
Melissa Hurley – like a great bottle of wine Hurls gets better with age! Her season has been outstanding with her leadership being brilliant with the inexperienced group. For the tigers to gain the upper hand, Hurls will need to be at her best inside the engine room to give her tigers first use of the footy!
Jordan Bardsley – The former tigers youth girls player returned to tiger land this season has been outstanding. Her efforts have been that good she was rewarded with some 1st Grade footy in 2019. Like Hurls, her hardness and run will be the key in overpowering the Riverina midfield.
Prediction – As per the results between these two teams in 2019, this game will be in the balance all day. The Tigers go in with confidence knowing they have defeated the Lions the previous two games but will need to be at their best again.
If they can keep their nerve and get a lead early in the game, the Tigers have shown they can fight out a tough contest and should have too many weapons on hand – Tigers by 9pts.
Men’s Preliminary Final Preview
Across town at Manuka Oval the men’s teams will go head to head with the Magpies in their quest to make the Grand Finals the following week. On a high from their Elimination Final victories, the Tigers will look to maintain their momentum and start the games strongly.
The Super Two’s have found their groove over the past fortnight and are looking like the team that started the season with 6 straight wins. Belconnen want be a push over however and the tigers will need to be very good again with Lawder, Ross, Morshead and Galloway needing to lead the charge.
The 1st Grade men’s have buried some hoodoos with their victory of Eastlake last week and training this week has shown the pressure has really been lifted. This bodes will for the Tigers as they need to be at their best if they are going to progress having not beaten Belconnen this year despite getting close the last two encounters.
Match ups and scoreboard pressure will have to be spot on if the tigers want to push the pies, every player will need to play their roll no more no less. The feeling is good among the squads and hopefully we will them join our 1st Grade Women’s team next week.
