El Chapo returns and so do the Tiger wins!

The return of the El Chapo (aka Scott Minchin) following a lengthy deployment

gave the tigers a much needed boost across the club and it showed with some excellent football last Saturday against the Jets.

On a beautiful Sunday the Tigers welcomed both the Gungahlin Jets and Marist Football Clubs to Aulich Park for a full card of games. The good crowd enjoyed the sunshine and light breeze as the 3 clubs went toe to toe.

Tigerettes Reserve Grade

The undermaned Super Twos heading to Woden to take on the 3rd placed Blues with high hopes of springing an upset.

However after a strong first quarter, the Blues come out all guns blazing with a 3 goal onslaught that in the end proved the difference at the end of the game. Woden led by former Tigerette Kahli Jensen proved way too strong across the ground during the important parts of the game.

Susie Armistead once again played another great game as did Madi Lustri with Stacey Close and Hannah Verri never giving up.

Rising Stars

Another big challenge confronted the RS lads as they took on the undefeated Marist in the early game. But like most games in 2021, this determined group took it up to their highly fancied opponents and stuck with them for most of the day.

It was only the 3rd qtr that let the game slip away however that was only on the scoreboard as the young cubs stuck to task and pushed the Marist lads all the way. Dayne Posthuma, Jarrod Barker & Jack Armstrong repelled plenty of footy in defense with Will Kellar and Caden Spinks working hard in the midfield.

Up forward Alessandro Sergi continues to be the spearhead but had help this week with Scott Lee playing well and Fraser McClure kicking his first goal in RS.

Men's Reserve Grade

The super twos went into the game with just 20 following injuries and unavailability across both senior men's teams but we did have some notable inclusions plus a one off appearance from 2012 NEAFL Premiership star Daniel Campbell.

The 5 goal hero from that flag when the Tigers defeated the Sydney Swans was in town for a wedding and polished off the boots, kicked a lazy 6 and then headed home. Thanks for helping out Piggy!

The other two big inclusions were that of 2014 Premiership Player Mitch Haley who has returned to footy as well as 2015 & 2020 Premiership Player Tim Clowry who has also recently decided to have one more crack at another season.

Tom Flight and Oliver Hicks are showing great form improvements and like a few of their teammates that were rewarded this week with senior call ups will be pressing for their own start in the top grade33333Queanbeyan Tigers 10.6 18.12 24.20 29.24-198 Gungahlin 0.0 0.0 0.1 0.1-1 Queanbeyan Tigers Goal Kickers: T. Tigerettes 1st Grade

The girls backed up their big win against Belconnen last week with a emphatic performace against the Jets. The team welcomed back Jayde Hamilton for her first game of 2021 following a stint with North Melbourne's VFLW team.

In more great news, the team fielded 7 Rising Stars players in last weeks win with Tiahna Banic and Kendall Judd making their 1st grade debut. It is a great sign that the Tigers Youth Girls program is going well with the hope of many more players joining the senior ranks in coming years.

The two Kate's (Woodward & McGrath) continue to play their best footy in season 2021 and with Ruby Grounds and Cynthia Hamilton dominating the forward line, next weeks clash with Eastlake should be a beauty.

Another 5 outs from last weeks loss to Belconnen and with no one to come back into the side left the 1st Grade calling on their depth to make sure an upset at Aulcih Park wasn't going to happen.

It was another great sign of the clubs depth with inform super two's players Wilson Morshead, Daniel Potts, Kieran Shea, Daniel Hespe and Jeremy Bridger called into the seniors and all playing very well which causes headaches for selectors with at least 6 players to return this weekend against Eastlake.

Lachie Highfield continued his strong start to the year along with Joe Stapleton who led the forward line with no Swan and Bryce. Alex Page showed how dangerous he is going to be with more and more games under his belt and Jacob May & Isaac Edgar both played well through the middle.

The only sour note was another injury to club favourite Tyler Collins, we are hoping the damage isn't as bad as it looked and hopefully scans this week will provide some good news and we will get Collo back later in the year!
