The 2018 season is shaping up nicely at Tiger-Land with the club set to welcome back Club Legend Neil Irwin and 2014 Tigers NEAFL Player Matt Bernasconi. Both Canberra based players have been playing in the country and their return to Canberra Football is a massive coup both for the Tigers and AFL Canberra.
Matt who is more affectionately known as Scones returns to the Tigers after a successful season at Barellan. Scones has had plenty of AFL Canberra experience with 123 senior appearances to his name. He has also had plenty of Rep Honours as well both with AFL Canberra 2015,2016 and the Farrer FNL 2017 and was also named in the Team of the Year AFL Canberra 2015 and Farrer FNL 2017
“I’m really looking forward to pulling the Tigers jumper back on, It’s a great club with great people and I can’t wait to get stuck in” Matt said
“When I was with the club in 2014 you could get a real sense of belonging and when I decided to return to Canberra footy QBN was my instant thought of where I wanted to be” he added.
Coach Dave Corcoran was thrilled with the signing “Scones will add much needed depth to our defense and his experience will be awesome around our young group”
The club also welcomes back Neilo after a brilliant 3 years at Leeton, winning the flag with them in 2017. Neil needs no introduction to the tiger family as he has been a massive part of the club over a long period. His record speaks for itself:
Total Tiger Games 221 – 1st Grade 158 / Res Grade 63
NEAFL EC Premiership Player – 2012
NEAFL Championship Grand Final Player – 2012
First Grade Premiership – 2014
First Grade Grand Finalist – 2004, 2007

Reserve Grade Grand Finalist – 2001, 2003

“I was hoping to eventually finish my career at the tigers with a handful of games, however when we lost Ray Daniel I felt it was my responsibility to finish at the best level I can in honour of Razor” Neil said
“There are so many great people who make up the fabric of this club and losing Ray hurt everyone, he was one of the best” he added.
General Manager Adrian Pavese was extremely grateful of Neil’s return “Neil owes the club nothing, for what he has sacrificed over the years both on and off the field for the tigers has been sensational” Pavese said
“His return typifies the person he is and is truly one of the Tigers greats” he added.
