The AFL Canberra Gala Presentation Night was held on Sunday, 7 September at the Hellenic Club in Woden. The night acknowledges players, volunteers and officials for their efforts during the 2014 season.
Tigers and Tigerettes all dressed to the nines for the AFL Canberra Gala Presentation night
The Tigers had a strong contingent of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters attend the night – and what an outstanding night it was for the club. We had several players acknowledged for their selection in representative teams along with a number named in teams of the year.
Two Tigers were also inducted into the AFL Canberra Wall of Fame – Michael Goiser for playing over 200 first grade games and for his involvement in various aspects of local football over many years; and Roy Williams, the youngest of the five Williams brothers played the 1952 season with Collingwood in the VFL and gained a reputation as a skilled aggressive performer. Roy was a member of the Queanbeyan/Acton 1953-54 and 1956 premiership teams. Roy was represented on the night by his son Craig Williams who accepted the award on behalf of his father, quite aptly on Father’s Day.

Other highlights of the evening included Robert Anderson being named Women’s Coach of the Year; Cassie Reid named Women’s Junior Player of the Year; and Scott Taylor receiving an AFL Merit Award.
The night was capped off in sensational style with Michael Wescombe coming home with a wet sail in the First Grade vote count. Several votes behind in the mid stages of the year, Wes polled outstandingly in the final rounds, including three votes in the final game to reel in runaway leader Troy Fenyvesi from Eastlake to tie for the Jack McNamara Medal. Sean Richardson also polled well to be not too far behind in third.
