Tri Colours too Strong for Tigerettes.

The Tigerettes were outclassed by a strong Ainslie outfit on the weekend but can be satisfied with their efforts in their best display against a Top Four team this season.

The team was very competitive in three of the four quarters, an awful third term a reminder of what the better teams can do to us unless we maintain 100% effort and intensity.

The highlights included strong performances from Tracey Mosely and Dani Louis in defence, Tegan Tisma playing well in a run-with role and solid contributions the centre line of Kristen Turner, Jane Vucago and Sarah Van Meurs. Another highlight was the debut of Carla Fahey who promised to be more than a handy contributor to the team in the second half of the season once she learns the game and can use her height and run to advantage.

The main highlight was the way the Tigerettes finished off the game in the final quarter, particularly after playing so poorly in the third team. Gez Croke came to life on the forward flank first missing a goal on the run before kicking truly with a set shot that looked to everyone at the ground to have gone through and been touched well over the line.

The Ainslie goal umpire deemed otherwise.

The team did finally manage to post a major after Tess Kolaric was paid a free kick and made certain of the result this time with the ball sailing high over the goal umpires hat. The final term showed the team can compete against the competition big guns, although admittedly almost half of the Ainslie team may have already been thinking about the mid-season break and the upcoming national carnival in Adelaide by this stage.

Good luck to Hannah Dunn, Queanbeyan’s sole representative travelling to Adelaide. In the meantime the Tigerettes will continue to train through the mid-season break and look to put in another competitive performance next up against Belconnen. That game will be at home at Town Park on Saturday 18 June at 10am.
