The Tigers are saddened to report the passing of former Tiger Champion

Alan Rogers.

Alan played during the enormously successful era of the Queanbeyan / Acton Combine teams from 1952 through to 1956 during which time the team played in 5 successive Grand Finals for three premierships in 1953, 1954 and 1956 (undefeated).

Alan was a member of each of the Grand Final and Premiership teams and gained best player acknowledgement in a number of these grand finals.

As a junior player, he was a member of the highly successful Intermediate Tigers teams from 1947 to 1951. This team under the guidance of the legendary George Schow played in 5 successive grand finals with the remarkable achievement of winning all 5 Premierships.

A wonderfully gifted player he was well known for his ball gathering abilities in the forward line kicking the winning goal just prior to the siren in the 1953 Grand Final to defeat Ainslie by just 5 points.

Alan played in a further Grand Final in 1961 for the Tigers and was named amongst the best players. In total he played in six 1st Grade Grand Finals for Queanbeyan.

He won the Tigers 1st Grade Best and Fairest in consecutive years being 1957 and 1958 and was also runner up in the Mulrooney Medal in 1957 after missing several matches through injury. He also led the Tigers as Coach in 1958.

Along with his 110 1st Grade matches for Queanbeyan, he represented the ACT during the years 1953 through to 1958 including matches against Queensland, NSW and Tasmania.

Alan Rogers was a super talented half forward / on ball player for Queanbeyan and will be fondly remembered by those who watched his uncanny ability in the “good old days” at the Queanbeyan Park.

The Club forwards condolences to the Rogers Family.
