Update on Club Upgrades!

In early 2019, the club submitted a plan (Dream) to NSW Deputy Premier and Local MP Hon. John Barilaro for it’s desire to update the clubs facilities

and make Allinsure Park the AFL Centre of Excellence for the QPRC and wider South Coast Regions.

These updates centered around the increased participation of female footy by way of building a new set of change room facilities, assistance with installing a Solar Energy System to help with rising energy costs, updating security fencing around the facility and upgrading the Legends Stand Viewing and Office Facility.

The overall cost of this dream was estimated at over $1.3 million and any an all contributions would start the journey towards fulfilling this dream.

It was a wonderful day when Mr Barilaro called Tigers General Manager Adrian Pavese and committed $590k towards the plan which has well and truly started the ball rolling. Following the State Government Grant from Mr Barilaro being ratified the club was then also extremely fortunate to gain extra support from the following organisations and people:

Former volunteer the Late Lisa Bush who left the club a substantial contribution following her passing in 2018.

Added to the above has been the wonderful efforts put in by the suppliers of these upgrades who have been nothing short of exceptional in their assistance and quoting for all of the projects.

Currently running on schedule to have the projects completed in early March, the official opening of all of the upgrades will be held on Good Friday 10th April during the AFL Canberra’s Women’s 1st Grade Round 1 Mega Day being held at Allinsure Park.

Fantastic Effort from the Tigers Army.

For the past four days, the Club has rallied behind the Bushfire Appeal with emphasis on assisting those on the South Coast who have been hugely

affected by the enormity of the bush fires that have devastated many of our pristine coastal townships.

It has been a wonderful effort with pallet loads of donated items being collected, sorted, packed and sent to various organisations in Queanbeyan and Evacuation Centres along the South Coast. A huge thank you to Andrew Dale from the G Spot Collection area at Gungahlin for assisting us with the delivery of items to the coast.

Some 15 associates of the Tigers delivered the items donated to the distribution area in Gungahlin on Sunday morning after attempts to deliver the cargo by way of Club transport down the Brown Mountain was thwarted with road closures.

Whilst at the distribution centre, it was all hands-on deck assisting other community volunteers load two trucks laden with an incredible number of donated items from the Canberra Community.

Locally, two Ute loads of pet food were delivered to the Animal Rescue Collective and the Australian Wildlife Organisation through local organiser

Kym Bryant. Clothing was distributed to the Salvation Army in Fyshwick while any perishable foods went straight to the local Queanbeyan Rural Fire Service.

A huge thank you to all those who contributed donations last Friday and to those who assisted in directing traffic into and around the drop off area. To those who collected and sorted into categories – what a wonderful effort and on behalf of the Tigers Organisation a huge thank you. Thanks also to those who assisted loading the vehicles on Saturday afternoon, many attended on multiple occasions.

To our South Coast Families, we hope that for all the effort over many years of transporting sons and daughters to play for the Queanbeyan Tigers, we have shown our enormous appreciation for your time and contribution to our organisation. The South Coast is a big part of our Club History & Culture and whatever we can do for our friends that are caught up in this terrible event we will do in a heart beat!

Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with each one of you during these difficult times. There are so many family members of current players along the

coast from Ulladulla through to Eden. Please stay safe.

LETTER OF APPRECIATION

The Tigers Chaplain (El Chapo) Scott Minchin has been an active participant of the Tigers Club since June even though on assignment / deployment in

Afghanistan.

The ability to round up the Tiger Army from so far away is a credit to El Chapo’s personal commitment of spreading harmony, love and embracement of all fellow human beings to assist were ever possible.

At his request, his Queanbeyan Tigers Army rallied mid-season and within a month 100 kilograms of toys were on the way to Afghanistan to be distributed to the Pro Bambini School for the disabled – a school close to El Chapo’s heart.

The Tigers Club received the below correspondence from Brigadier Tim O’Brien, Commander Task Force of Afghanistan – Australian Defence Force in appreciation of the Clubs efforts.

Thank you to our Tiger Army that supported El Chapo’s request, with special mention to Ryan Quade for the organisation of the project and indeed Scotties wife Jane (and Cooper) for the invaluable assistance with the delivery of the toys through Australia Post.
