100 1st Grade Tigerette Games for Ella Shea (nee Ross)

ree

For many of the more senior Tigerette players, playing “Aussie rules” didn’t become an option until late into their teens.

In fact, it wasn’t an option for Ella Ross (now Shea) who at the time was an outstanding softball player representing both the ACT and Australia (2011) in her late teen’s early twenties.

Then in 2014, a chance conversation with good friend Hannah Dunn convinced this outstanding sportsperson to “have a go” at footy and now she joins an elite group of female players to have donned the Tigers black and gold when she takes the field against Belconnen this Saturday at the Nest for her 100th 1st Grade game.

Ella is the 6th Tigerette to play 100 1st Grade games following in the footsteps of Lani Watson (141), Hannah Dunn (134), Kristen Argent (nee Turner) (122), Megan Godfrey (110) and Carly Swan (nee Res) (104)

Amazingly, Ella’s first game wasn’t for the black and gold but for the representative colours of the ACT!!

ree

Having been coerced into trying out in the 2014 ACT Development Program, and being noticed at the Tigers training by Adrian Pavese, she was asked to join the ACT representative squad which was coached by Pav. From there she was selected to play for the ACT and hasn’t looked back since.

Ella would have chalked up many more games over the years had it not been for a season with the GWS GIANTS AFLW team where she played 8 games in their inaugural 2017 season followed by 14 games at the Richmond Tigers VFLW team in 2018.

And more recently missing the early part of this season when wedding plans and eventual marriage to Tim Shea took priority with Tim himself is on the verge of achieving 100 Club games with the Tigers.

Amongst the 100 1st Grade games (and 2 Reserve Grade matches - when helping out with numbers) Ella has achieved success at the highest level available with the Tigers with two 2nd Division Premierships 2014 & 2015 and two 1st Grade Premiership in 2017 & 2019.

She has a Tigerette record of 4 Club Best and Fairest awards 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and sits equal 2nd in the Tigers all time Best & Fairest winners behind Tony Wynd (5) and equal with James Black and Jack McNamara at 4.

"A wonderful achievement"

ree

Ella’s’ wonderful personality and friendly disposition has endured her to everyone at the Tigers Club which led to her Captaining the 1st Grade team in 2021.

We congratulate Ella on this wonderful achievement and look forward to many more games, with her guidance and experience invaluable to our younger Tigerettes in a year of rebuilding for our Women’s Program.
